For DNA Plasmid Purification the plasmid DNA has to be isolated from the bacterial cells. To do this, the host bacterial cells are lysed and the plasmid DNA has to be separated from proteins, RNA and chromosomal DNA. This method is generally called Mini-Prep. Depending on the amount of liquid culture you start with, and the correlated amount of isolated plasmid DNA there is also Midi-, Max- and Mega-Preps.
